BerryWhey 45 – Pacific Northwest Grown Nutrition

In the shadow of Mt. Saint Helens, a blueberry farm has been flourishing since 1944. The farmer, second generation, goes by the name of Glenn and is finishing his blueberry harvest for the day. As the sun sinks into the Pacific, I wait for him to finish his work and drum my fingers on the steering wheel. Once the job is complete, we load dozens of 40 pound crates of blueberries into the back of my old pickup and talk about the weather.

These blueberries, harvested only moments ago, will be dried within hours on our Refractance Window® dryer at our facility a few miles down the road.

Across the Cascade range, another farmer is finishing his harvest for the day. Travis, first generation, has just finished harvesting Aronia berries on his 5 year old farm. Aronias resemble blueberries in size but possess a much deeper purple, almost black, color due to the extremely high levels of nutrient dense polyphenols (especially anthocyanins) contained in the skin and seeds.

These aronia berries will also be dried at our facility on our Refractance Window® dryer locking in their nutritional value at the peak of freshness.

Both of these berries are primary components of our newest product: BerryWhey™ 45.

The vision of BerryWhey™ 45. is to create a product that is nutrient dense, biologically complete, locally sourced, and deliciously satisfying.

We can’t wait to show you what we’ve done.

We’ve managed to squeeze 45 berries into each packet of BerryWhey™ 45 all locally produced here in the Pacific Northwest and dried on our own Refractance Window® dryer. Along with these superfruits, we included 10g of ISO-GOAT WHEY™ (goat whey protein isolate), 8 grams of our own Capra Mineral Whey® mineral/electrolyte mix, and 3 grams of our CapraCream™ goat milk cream. We also boosted the healthy fats by including 4 grams of non-GMO sunflower lecithin (this equals 2 grams of brain healthy phospholipids), and zero grams of added sugar.

The beauty of BerryWhey™ 45 lies in the fact that each packet contains the whole fruit (seed, skin, pulp, etc.). When the skin and seeds are thrown away (as is often the case) the majority of the nutritional potency of the berry is lost. When the whole fruit is kept intact it is difficult to dry without destroying the nutritional value. However, when dried using gentle Refractance Window® Drying Technology  the full range of phytochemicals such as polyphenols, anthocyanins, proanthocyanins, phenolic acid, and flavonoids stay nutritionally bioavailable and stable even when stored for long periods of time in a packet or bottle on the shelf.   Check out the animation and see for yourself:

See how easily the water evaporates? The product is cool enough to comfortably rest your hand upon while drying. With product temperatures THAT low and no harsh vacuums destroying cellular structure (I’m looking at you Freeze drying) food dried using this technology is simply superior.

Of course the benefits of goat milk ingredients are widely known to our customer base and therefore the combination of our own mineral/electrolyte pack Capra Mineral Whey®  and cream CapraCream™ along with a high quality goat milk protein isolate ISO-GOAT WHEY™ makes a “nutritional trinity” of protein, minerals, and healthy fats.

Finally, we’ve included a non-GMO sunflower lecithin due to its high content of brain boosting phospholipids such as Phosphatidylcholine, Phosphatidylinositol, Phosphatidylethanolamine, and Phosphatidic acid. Each one of these ingredients, chosen for its nutrient density and functional impacts, harvested locally from sustainable farms and dried at the peak of freshness, bring together a drink packet that delivers healthy fats, wholesome proteins, and bioavailable phytonutrients, minerals, and vitamins, all with a label that is as clean as the air of the Pacific Northwest.

  1. Hello, I just ordered Mt. Capra whole milk goat powder from Pureformulas and the following notification appeared at check out “CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.”
I’m a little shocked and disturbed by this. What exactly is the chemical they are referring to?

    • Hello, Jennifer. The California serving suggestion / disclaimer exists on certain Mt. Capra products due to the quantity of their NATURAL mineral content, and the disclaimers are a response to attorney firms who might ‘lawsuit shop’ whole foods makers like Mt. Capra, and threaten lawsuits under California’s Safe Drinking Water Act of 1986, otherwise known as Proposition 65. Over the years, California attorney firms have twisted this law to apply to much more than just clean water. For years now they’ve been threatening natural foods makers with lawsuit action, simply because their products ‘may’ contain more minerals than Prop 65 allows. And when I say minerals, I mean naturally occurring minerals, some of which are referred to in the Prop 65 law as ‘heavy metals’.

Mt. Capra products are all natural, made with milk from grass-fed goats. As such they are rich in natural minerals. You are free to use our products as you determine to be appropriate. But, because of this ridiculous, and now utterly perverted reading of the law, we can only recommend the serving amount as shown for California residents only. Nowhere else in the United States is this limitation imposed.

By the way, the ‘heavy metals’ limitations imposed by Prop 65 are some 1000 times more stringent then the corresponding federal laws require. It’s a shame that natural foods makers like Mt. Capra have to put this kind of disclaimer on their products, but that’s the current state of play between California’s gov’t and some aggressive lawyers. For more information, do a web search for ‘Prop 65’ and ‘natural foods makers’ and you’ll get a lot more in-depth information. : – )
