Mt. Capra Will Not Use Antibiotics

We at Mt. Capra do not use antibiotics on our goats. Never have! Never will!

liesl-baby-goat-milk-formulaCurrently the FDS has a volunteer policy with farms concerning the use of certain antibiotics on farm animals.  They explain that a volunteer policy is the fastest way to entice farmers to stop the practice.

We at Mt. Capra do not use antibiotics on our goats.  Never have!  Never will!

Why do some farmers use antibiotics for farm animals?

Antibiotics speed up the weight gain for animals; at the same time they encourage weight gain but require less feed.  The key in that answer is the gain of weight using less feed.  The farmer then ends up with a larger animal at a cheaper cost, and it doesn’t take a farmer to understand the advantages of such a plan.

But . . .

Antibiotics can also be harmful to farm animals by weakening their immune systems and making them more susceptible to super bugs.

We won’t do that at Mt. Capra!

And then the concerns continue: can heavy antibiotic use in farm animals harm humans?  We already know that over-use of antibiotics, by humans, can cause the human immune system to be susceptible to certain new bugs, and we also know that they can, in fact, weaken the natural immune system in humans . . . so is it possible that antibiotics in the animals we eat will also harm us?

Scientists say maybe!

Maybe!

We won’t do that at Mt. Capra!

“Maybe” is too big a word to be messing with when it comes to the health of our customers, and quite frankly we are slightly amazed that all farmers don’t share the same attitude.

Yes, antibiotics can increase the size of an animal, but is it really worth it when that word “maybe” is floating around?

We don’t think so!

Ninety years of Mt. Capra, doing it our way, doing it the safe, healthy, and humane way . . . we think our animals deserve that treatment, and we think our customers deserve that assurance.  We believe that when customers purchase our infant formula, or our cleansing supplements, or any of the other dozens of products we produce, they should be able to do so knowing they are purchasing products which are free of all harmful, or potentially harmful, drugs.

Healthy goats equal healthy products!

That is the Mt. Capra way of doing things!
