FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions
Why goat milk?
For centuries, goat milk has been a hidden gem for countless individuals. Goat milk contains all of the nutritional density that have made dairy products famous without all of the unpleasant side effects (gas, bloating, allergy, skin issues, etc.) that makes dairy infamous. Goat milk generally is much easier to digest, much less allergenic, and has a much higher bioavailability due to the similarity it shares with human milk at the very DNA level. Want to learn more? Check out this article to find out why goat milk is magic. For the past century we’ve heard the same story countless times, goat milk has changed my life!
What do you feed the goats?
This is both our most frequently asked question and as well as the one we are most excited to answer.
We feed our goats one main food: grass.
Specifically, organic pasture, intensively-managed, never-overgrazed grass.
Goats have been specifically designed to thrive on both pasture grazing and shrub browsing and our farm is a perfect place to do both.
Now, full disclosure: we are located in the Pacific Northwest where it rains a lot. This means the goats, naturally a desert animal, don’t always want to go outside to graze.
For those times we offer them free choice local grass hay, non-GMO alfalfa, organically grown barley fodder, and a small amount of non-gmo corn/soy free grain. You can see there is a pattern of grass being the primary foundation and structure for their entire nutritional existence. We are grass-obsessed because ruminants like goats are excellent at pulling the vast amounts of bioavailable nutrition from grass that is not available to humans. They make the goodness of grass available to humans and we think that is a miracle of creation.
As you can see, our goats are living the good life. As much access to pasture as they want and lots of organic and non-GMO goodness for the rainy days.
How far are you transporting your milk?
Our processing facility is only 9 miles down the road in the adjacent town of Chehalis, WA.
Do your products contain any GMOs?
Absolutely not!
Each one of our products is completely and 100% non-GMO. Always have been and always will be. Rest assured we are just as opposed to using GMOs in our products or with our goats as you are to eating them!
How gentle is your processing technique?
We use the most gentle form of processing equipment on the market today called Refractance Window Drying Technology®. The technology is nothing short of genius and was invented relatively recently by a real life Mr. Wizard who lives only an hour from the farm. We were the first company to adopt Refractance Window Drying Technology®—we literally bought the first machine he ever made—and have been using it for nearly two decades. The way it processes ingredients is so gentle that naturally occurring colors, water soluble vitamins, and various other fragile nutritional components are not damaged or denatured.
Does every product you sell come exclusively from your own goat farm in the Pacific Northwest?
No. While every drop of milk we produce on our Pacific Northwest farm is gently turned into the products you know and love, we are thankful to partner with other farmers both domestically and internationally who are also working hard to produce the world’s most perfect food. For example, our goat milk powder comes exclusively from small Dutch farms in the Netherlands. Also, we have teamed up with goat dairymen in the midwest who help to produce a portion of our whey protein. We also collaborate with small goat dairies on the West coast (right in our backyard) to ensure that our potent goat milk colostrum is available year round. All of these farmers are committed, like us, to ensuring the health and happiness of their goats and potency of their milk by a relentless commitment to grass-based nutrition, non-GMO inputs, and organic practices in all possible circumstances.
Do you sell your products on Amazon?
Yes we do! We are on Amazon as we know it can be more convenient for those who are buying other products there. However, make sure when you buy our products from Amazon, that it says Sold by: Mt. Capra Ships from: Amazon. Amazon does the fulfillment. There are no other authorized resellers on Amazon.com for Mt. Capra products. Any resellers besides Mt. Capra on Amazon would be unauthorized.
Do you 3rd party test your products?
Mt. Capra commissions independent 3rd party labs to test our goat milk products for microbiological contamination, presence of heavy metals, and glyphosate. Question about a product? Contact us!
Do you sell liquid goat milk?
We do not. We only sell goat milk powder that, when rehydrated with water, tastes like fresh liquid milk.
Do you ship outside the U.S.?
Unfortunately, no, we do not ship to any countries outside the United States, which now includes Canada. Before we stopped, a large percentage of the orders we sent internationally arrived damaged or went missing entirely.
The loss to customers and our company just became too great for us to continue. We would love to be able to continue shipping outside the United States, but shipping is unfortunately too unreliable for us to do so while meeting our company standards.
We do have several international customers who use a forwarding service to order with us, so that is something you could consider. There are also several online retail stores that carry some of our products and ship internationally. Depending on which products you are looking for, you could order through: iherb.com, pureformulas.com, vitacost.com, or drjudymorgan.com.
Are your products organic?
We are not certified organic, but we do use organic farming practices every step of the way.
Do the baby goats get the colostrum they need?
We ensure that the baby goats get all the colostrum they need to thrive. The vitality of the herd is of the highest importance to us, and colostrum is an essential part of that!
