If you’re a dog parent, chances are you’ve experienced at least one sleepless night due to your pet’s tummy issues. I won’t go into details because I’m sure you know what I’m talking about!
When our animals are suffering, so are we. Trouble shooting the source of digestive issues can be frustrating, which is why finding food that agrees with our pets is such a relief.
Our line of goat milk products includes four that are suitable for pets. So whether your fur baby is struggling with tummy trouble or other health problems, or if you simply want your pet to thrive, our whole food nutrition products can help.
GOAT MILK
One of the miracles of goat milk is it can often be tolerated by those who are sensitive to cow milk. And the same goes for cats and dogs.
Goat milk is a delicious, nutritious, hydrating treat safe for all mammals. So yes, this is a great option for your four-legged family member. This nutrient-dense food can be used as a dietary supplement, as it contains all 3 macronutrients, as well as beneficial minerals and electrolytes. The main reasons it’s often tolerated better than cow milk has to do with its smaller fat globules and unique protein structure that makes goat milk easier to digest.
It can be a soothing, nourishing addition to your cat or dog’s diet, with a low potential for adverse reactions.
It can also be helpful in treating and preventing certain health concerns.
Inflammation
Reducing inflammation is key for a healthy, thriving pet. Goat milk is rich in fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, making it helpful for pain and swelling due to arthritis or joint problems. Selenium and zinc found in goat milk help minimize general inflammation in the body as well.
Weak Bones
Calcium is an essential mineral for strong teeth and bones, and our Whole Goat Milk contains 230 mg of bioavailable calcium per serving.
Dry Skin
If your pet suffers from dry, flaky skin, goat milk could help due to its moisture-promoting fatty acids. It can be applied externally to itchy patches and hot spots. Their coat will also benefit from biotin, a B vitamin that helps prevent brittle, dry fur.
Weak Immune System
Goat milk can enhance the function of the immune system thanks to the antioxidants present. A healthy gut plays a key role in a strong immune system as well, and goat milk promotes proper balance of bacteria in the digestive tract.
Dehydration
Again, just like in humans, plain water isn’t ideal for optimal hydration. Minerals and electrolytes are what maintain fluid balance in our bodies, and are crucial in staving off dehydration. Goat milk is an excellent source of the electrolytes sodium and potassium, making it much more hydrating than water alone. Try goat milk when you need serious hydration, like on hot days, or if your pet has diarrhea.
CAPRA MINERAL WHEY
Capra Mineral Whey was highlighted in a book called “The Veterinarians’ Guide to Natural Remedies for Dogs” by Martin Zucker in the chapter about arthritis.
Michele Yasson, DVM writes,
“For the stiffness, lameness, and pain involved with osteoarthritis, I use a product for humans called Capra Mineral Whey, made by Mt. Capra… This is an easily absorbed natural whole-food supplement in powder form from dehydrated goat milk. Dogs like the taste.
The product is a rich source of important minerals, including biologically active sodium—not to be confused with inorganic sodium that is part of salt. Bioactive sodium is stored in various tissues of the body, primarily the walls of the stomach and small intestine, and the joints. Long-term use helps loosen up joints and appears to dissolve osteophytes (calcium deposits). The mode of action is believed related to restoring missing sodium to joint tissue.
When dealing with. Hard tissue as in osteoarthritis, improvement takes time. Be patient. We put animals on the product for up to three months and then monitor results to determine their minimal effective maintenance dosage. In general, results are very good. I see freer motion and less stiffness and pain.
Dosage
- Dogs under twenty pounds, give one-quarter the full human dose on the label; dogs up to fifty pounds, one-half the label dose: dogs over fifty pounds, full label dose. Mix powder into food."
Mineral Whey can be helpful for digestive disorders in cats, as well. The same vet wrote about this in “The Veterinarians’ Guide to Natural Remedies for Cats”:
“Use a product called Capra Mineral Whey…, a unique and easily absorbed natural supplement for humans in powder form derived from goat’s milk. Whey is a natural tonic for the intestines and is extremely useful for constipation cases. I find it is almost as good as the heavy-duty conventional drugs. It is a ‘whole food,’ so an animal can be on it indefinitely. It also provides a rich source of biologically active minerals. Most cats like the taste.
Dosage
- One-quarter of the human dose. Mix into the food.”
COLOSTRUM
Colostrum is “nature’s superfood” and is the first milk produced by the mother postpartum in all mammals. Colostrum’s job is to jump start a newborn’s immune system. Cytokines, Immunoglobulins, and lactoferrin are the three components in colostrum with healing properties and that support the immune system.
Colostrum is wonderful in supporting a strong immune system in cats and dogs. Many of our customers have also used colostrum for their pet’s gut health, as it can help support the gut microflora.
It really is a superfood. Try colostrum for everything from skin problems and joint issues to leaky gut and aging.
P.S. My dogs go nuts over the taste!
GHEE
Ghee is made by straining out all the milk solids from butter, leaving you with a clarified butter oil. It’s traditionally used in Indian cooking, but can also be a beneficial supplement for your pet.
Ghee is a rich source of healthy fats, vitamins, and antioxidants. And since all the milk solids, like casein and lactose, are removed, there is less chance of it causing an allergic reaction.
The primary fat in ghee is conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which can help with weight loss, blood sugar, protection against disease, and can aid in the absorption of vitamins and minerals. Butyric acid in ghee can also help reduce inflammation in the joints and skin. For skin irritations (like dermatitis) you can apply ghee topically or feed it to your pet.
Ghee also helps aid in the digestive process and can strengthen the intestinal wall lining. The cholesterol in ghee is also beneficial for your cat and dog’s bodies, as it is vital for brain function, hormone regulation, cell function, liver function, and the nervous system.
Try rubbing ghee on your dog’s paws for a natural soothing paw balm! Bonus points if you can keep them from licking it off ;)
