Every month, we have the fun privelege of donating a stack of products to our local CrossFit gym's athlete of the month. Eric is the September winner, and he was very happy to score a couple canisters of Clean Recovery.
We knew our audience would be interested in learning Eric's tips and tricks for putting on 15 lbs of muscle at age 52. Here's what he had to say...
How did you get started in CrossFit?
Two years ago, I had a few friends convince me try CrossFit, and they swore I would love it more than the weight/cardio gym. I would up staying with CrossFit and never went back to the normal gym because of the daily changing exercises, new challenges, awesome coaches, community of like-minded friends, and fitness lifestyle. Most of all, I went back to the "regular" gym a year after I had started doing CrossFit, and smoked my old weight lifting routine! What had once been challenging was now easy. CrossFit works! I'm a believer in CrossFit over my old gym routine.
How much protein do you eat in a day?
My protein grams used to be 40 and are now at 90. I still need to get my protein up. But I have put on 15 lbs of muscle in the last year since doubling my protein and going to CrossFit consistently five days a week.
What are your short-term and long-term fitness goals?
My short-term goal is to be injury-free every workout. Long-term is to still do pull ups, push ups, and muscle ups into my 70s. As well as have a physique better than most 30-yr-olds haha.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to get in shape?
Start today. Not when it's convenient for your life, holidays are over, when kids turn 18, New Years, etc. Start now. Then don't stop.
How does Clean Recovery help you reach your fitness goals?
Clean Recovery and Peter Pan Peanut Butter are my secret weapons to quick gains in mass and strength with minimal recovery time, even at my age.
